In Under Cover, Bevere reveals how being under divinely established authority is the secret place of liberty, protection and provision for God's people. He explains with practical, personal examples and strong biblical foundation how rebellion to divine authority (the authority of God or the authority ordained by God) is the root cause of many difficulties people currently experience in the church. He discusses how all authority that exists is ordained by God. (See Romans 13:1-2)

Current Study:  What’s So Amazing About Grace? by Philip Yancey

 

Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God’s love for the undeserving, what does it look like in action? If Christians are its sole dispensers, how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy? Grace is the church’s great distinction. It’s the one thing the world cannot duplicate and the one thing it craves above all else—for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world. Grace does not excuse sin, says Yancey, but it treasures the sinner. True grace is shocking and scandalous. Grace shakes our conventions with its insistence on getting close to sinners and touching them with mercy and hope.

Current Study:  Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus

 

Erwin McManus uses the biblical account of Israel’s war with the Philistines (1 Samuel 13 and 14) and the characters of Saul and Jonathan to demonstrate the difference between living a life of purpose and adventure, and living one of apathy and missed opportunity. In the midst of a less-than-hopeful battle, Saul rested beneath a tree as Jonathan seized the divine moment that would impact the future of Israel.

We were made for eternity. This life on earth is but a vapor. Yet too many live as though there is nothing on the other side. Scriptural laws and principles may be applied to achieve success on earth, but are we prepared for eternity? Have we failed to remember we will all stand before the Great Judge of Heaven and Earth?  Scripture tells us there will be various degrees of rewards for believers ranging from those who watch as all they accomplished is devoured in judgment to those who are awarded the privilege to reign with Christ. These judgments will determine how we spend our span of eternity.
